Upgrade System
Improve compatible equipment with tiered runes and upgrade stones, then protect, move or remove those upgrades.
Getting Started

Use an upgrade rune or upgrade stone on a compatible piece of equipment to attempt an upgrade. The equipment must be unequipped before it can be modified.

Every successful attempt adds one upgrade level for that stat and adds the bonus from the material that was used. The bonus remains on the item until it is removed or transferred. One item can hold several different compatible upgrade types.

  • Upgrade materials are consumed on every attempt, whether the attempt succeeds or fails.
  • The success chance is based on the item's current level for that specific upgrade type, not on the rune tier.
  • Rune tiers change how much bonus is added by a successful attempt. Higher-tier runes provide a larger bonus.
Success Chances and Failure

The table shows the chance of advancing from the current upgrade level to the next level. Each upgrade type keeps its own level and uses the same chance curve.

  • Without protection, a failed attempt lowers that upgrade by one level.
  • A Protection Stone prevents one downgrade after a failed attempt and is consumed when it protects the item.
Rune Fusion

Use a tiered rune on an identical rune to fuse 3 identical runes into 1 rune of the next tier. All three runes must be in your inventory.

  • Tier 1 through Tier 5 runes can be fused.
  • Tier 6 is the highest tier and cannot be fused further.
  • Single-value upgrade stones do not have higher tiers and cannot be fused.
Tiered Upgrade Runes

Each successful application adds the value shown for the rune that was used. Values from several successful attempts are added together.

Power Runes
Swords, axes, clubs and distance weapons: maximum +10. Shields, helmets, armor, legs and boots: maximum +5.
Adds weapon attack, shield defense or equipment armor depending on the target. Fractional Power is saved as progress; only whole points are applied to the item stat.

Obtaining Upgrade Materials

Upgrade materials are available through Tasks, the Task Shop, Dungeons, Bosses, Quests, NPC missions and more.

Source Available Materials
Task rewards Locked rune chests, locked Upgrade Stone chests and individual upgrade stones can appear among task rewards.
Task Shop Upgrade Stone, Spell Damage, Wand Damage, Power and Attack Speed chests cost 50 Task Points each. Critical Chance and Critical Damage chests cost 75 Task Points each. An Oblivion Key costs 40 Task Points.
Dungeons Can reward locked chests and Protection Stones.
NPC Missions Missions can include locked rune chests, Upgrade Stone chests, Protection Stones and Transfer Runes.
Locked Chests and Oblivion Keys

Use an Oblivion Key on a locked rune or Upgrade Stone chest while the chest is in your inventory.

  • Each locked rune chest always contains its Tier 1 rune. Tier 2 has a 70% chance, Tier 3 has a 30% chance and Tier 4 has a 10% chance. These rolls are independent.
  • A locked Upgrade Stone chest always contains one random upgrade stone. Each of the seven stone types also has its own independent 5% bonus roll.
  • Tier 5 and Tier 6 runes are created by fusing lower-tier runes.
